Terms of Service & Usage Policy

Aluedata — Finland & France postcode/commune intelligence · Effective 2026-08-02

1. Acceptance

By accessing aluedata.com or any Aluedata API/embed endpoint, you agree to these Terms. If you are using a licensed Embed Widget or API on behalf of a business, you accept these Terms on that business's behalf.

2. The Service

Aluedata provides two things:

• Free public map — income, unemployment, education, crime and tax-rate statistics for Finnish postcodes and French communes, for anyone to browse.
• Licensed Embed Widget & API — the same area-profile data (including the composite "Area Score"), sold under a license key for real-estate businesses to embed on their own listing pages.

3. Free Public Service — Acceptable Use

The public website and its unauthenticated API endpoints are provided for personal, informational browsing. You agree not to:

• Use automated tools (scripts, bots, scrapers) to systematically extract, crawl, or bulk-download data from the site or its API;
• Attempt to bypass, disable, or circumvent rate limits or other access controls;
• Reverse-engineer the compiled dataset, the Area Score methodology, or the underlying software in order to build a competing product;
• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute data obtained through the Service as a standalone dataset or feed;
• Use the Service in any way that imposes an unreasonable load on its infrastructure.

We reserve the right to rate-limit, block, or restrict access for any traffic that appears automated or abusive, without prior notice.

4. Licensed Embed Widget & API

• Use of /embed/widget/:pno, /embed/profile/:pno, and the embed.js loader requires a valid, active license key issued by Aluedata.
• Each license key is scoped to the domain(s) registered for that license. Using a key from an unregistered domain, or publishing/sharing a key for use by third parties outside your own registered site(s), is a breach of these Terms.
• You may not use the licensed data to build, train, or populate a competing area-statistics product or dataset.
• Demo license keys (marked "DEMO" in the widget) are for evaluation only — not for production use on a live listing site — and may be rate-limited, revoked, or changed at any time without notice.
• Aluedata may suspend or terminate a license for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or abusive use, with or without notice depending on severity.
• Commercial terms (pricing, invoicing, SLA) are set out separately in your license agreement/order confirmation; if there is a conflict, that agreement controls over this general policy.

5. Data Sources, Licensing & Attribution

Aluedata compiles and computes derived statistics (including the Area Score and percentile rankings) from the following original sources. The raw statistics remain available directly from their publishers under the licenses below; Aluedata does not claim ownership of the underlying facts.

If you embed the Widget or otherwise redistribute data from the Service, you must keep the attribution notice included in the widget/API output intact — do not strip, hide, or alter source attributions.

What is Aluedata's own work

The above open licenses cover the raw source data. Aluedata's own contribution — the cross-source compiled dataset, the composite Area Score algorithm and its weighting, percentile-rank calculations, the caching/serving infrastructure, and the software itself — is Aluedata's own work product and is not covered by those source licenses. Copying, scraping, or reverse-engineering this compiled output to reconstruct an equivalent product is prohibited under Section 3/4 above, independent of the openness of the underlying raw data.

6. No Professional Advice; Accuracy

Data is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute financial, investment, legal, or professional real-estate advice. Statistics are sourced from third-party public bodies and may be incomplete, delayed, or revised; Aluedata is not affiliated with Tilastokeskus, Insee, SSMSI, DGFIP, Kuntaliitto, or any government agency referenced above.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Aluedata shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the Service, including decisions made in reliance on its data.

For the free public Service, which is provided at no cost, Aluedata's total liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

For the licensed Embed Widget/API specifically, Aluedata's total liability arising out of or relating to a license, however caused, will not exceed the total fees you paid for that license in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. This cap does not apply where liability cannot be limited by law (for example, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud). [This is a standard SaaS-style cap, a sensible default rather than an invented number — but have a Finnish/French lawyer confirm it holds up before the licensed product is actually sold. Some jurisdictions (France included, via the "clause réputée non écrite" doctrine for caps set so low they gut a contract's core purpose) can strike an unreasonably low cap, so this should be sized relative to real license pricing once that's set.]

9. Privacy

The public Service sets no cookies and collects no personal data beyond standard web server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested path), retained up to 30 days for security purposes. See the full Privacy Policy for legal basis, data-subject rights, and retention detail.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time; continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes affecting active license holders will be communicated to the contact address on file.

11. Operator Status & Governing Law

Aluedata is currently operated by an individual, not a registered company. This matters in two concrete ways:

• No liability shield. A company (e.g. a Finnish osakeyhtiö or French SASU/EURL) separates business liability from personal assets; an unincorporated individual does not have that separation. The disclaimers and liability limits in Sections 7–8 above can still reduce contractual liability, but they don't create a shield equivalent to trading through a company. If licensing revenue becomes meaningful — especially once selling to French businesses — incorporating is worth doing for this reason alone, separate from any tax benefit.
• France requires operator identification regardless of company status. French law (LCEN, article 6-III) requires any website — run by an individual or a company — to make its publisher identifiable: at minimum a name and contact method. An individual not acting in a professional/commercial capacity can keep their home address private from the public (disclosed only to the hosting provider, who can be compelled to release it to a court), but the moment the site is used to sell a commercial product, that private-individual exemption is on shakier ground and should be checked with a French lawyer rather than assumed. The Embed Widget licensing feature is currently dormant (not actively offered) — see Section 4 — so this obligation is not yet live in practice, but revisit it before re-enabling that feature.

Governing law: Finland (the operator's country of habitual residence). If you are contracting with Aluedata as a business in another country, mandatory local consumer-protection rules of your own jurisdiction may still apply regardless of this clause — [have counsel confirm the exact wording once licensing is active again].
